Megan Refness, Chief Operating Officer, began her career at GEMCOR in 2005 as an administrative assistant. Her initiative and aptitude quickly propelled her into the role of staff loan processer. Over the years, Megan developed a deep expertise in the statues, regulations, and compliance standards governing federal student loan programs, which led to her promotion as Director of Federal Direct Student Loans. In 2025, she advanced to Chief Operating Officer, where she now oversees all daily funding operations including loan and grant processing, as well as daily cash management ensuring efficiency, compliance, and excellence across GEMCOR's services.

Today, she and her team oversee the processing and administration of approximately $150 million in student loan volume annually, while also providing training and support to clients navigating the federal aid landscape. With her extensive experience in federal aid administration and her collaborative, team-oriented approach to client services, Megan is a trusted and respected leader among both colleagues and clients.

2025 marked Megan’s 20th anniversary at GEMCOR—a milestone that reflects her deep dedication to both the company and it's clients. She genuinely loves working with GEMCOR’s diverse client base and feels fortunate to collaborate with an incredible team of coworkers. Known for giving her all in everything she does, Megan is committed to finding answers and solutions, even when they’re not immediately available. 

Outside of work, her world revolves around family. She and her husband stay busy following their two sports-loving kids from game to game, always accompanied by their very spoiled dog, Daisy.
